Gerde is my character in a freeform Iron Kingdoms game I'm in. She's an ogrun fighter who uses her fists for everything (though she has been known to hurl a table or barrel at an opponent on occasion). Despite her penchant for hand to hand combat she is actually a very sensitive and easygoing soul, who loves art. You see, Gerde lacks the ability to read and write but she makes up for it by drawing the more important things that happen to her (on this occasion she was single-handedly fighting three sharks underwater).
So this picture is done in Gerde's own "style", such as it is.
Gerde's three steps to success: Geometric shapes, heavy black outlines, and lots of blood (tip: unwanted ink splatters can be easily converted into blood).
Now, as for my personal choices, I wanted to convey Gerde's rough but evocative style as efficiently as possible without overworking it. So I went for messy, water soluble ink for the outlines and basic quality watercolours for the rest. I think it did the trick.
More epic than actual events I think... I'm pretty sure she never actually made the sharks bleed, and in fact she got horribly mauled by them but there's not a scratch on her in the picture. Artist's interpretation I guess.
Nice! I had an illiterate PC who journaled like that, too, but my arts were no where nearly as well done as yours. I love her little snarly face as she takes on the big fishies. That top knot is rockin'.
Gerde thinks she is a very good prospect for a mate, so she can't understand why the two big ogrun bodyguards staying at the inn where she lives won't give her the time of day. It's very frustrating. She even brought back a big troll's head for their boss after it beat him up. She just can't seem to impress those two.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
